The Shellback Club of Toronto
The Shellback Club:
Celebrating 77 Years...1934 – 2011.
First...a brief report about Shellbacks who are travelling...
Mark Nye reports the Jack and Julian arrived in Penzance, England on July 29 after a difficult crossing. They needed to repair the forestay, furling gear, and storm sail. They were lucky not to lose the spar. After a week of repairs etc they sailed to Bantry Bay, Ireland and left there August 4 for Long pond NF...expecting / hoping for a passage of 20 days.
Bruce and Linda Anderson were climbing Salt Mountain in Cape Breton as per the last blog. Wonderful pictures and comment on their whole trip. See and hear all about it on October 19 when they speak to Shellbacks!
Douglas Caldwell has been sighted at a Cruising Sailors rendezvous on Lake Ontario ...returning after most of a year in transit, Florida and the Bahamas.
Noel Lien has had one difficulty after another and now will leave the boat in the Gaspe and plan to go next year to Europe / Norway.
New News about the next Shellback year....
Shellbacks fall program...starts October 12 at RCYC and concludes, until after Christmas, on December 14 at Mimico Cruising Club... with the Moose Milk event.
After the Christmas break, we start again at RCYC on January 4 ....and continue until April 11, 2012.
As you can see for the schedule attached ...we have a terrific group of speakers coming and the voyages and topics should be of compelling interest to Shellbacks...
Summer Lunch at MCC:
Mimico Cruising Club continues to offer lunch to Shellbacks every Wednesday. The buffet of past years is not on and has been replaced by 2/3 inexpensive “specials”. The full menu is also available.
On a nice day...on any day... this is a terrific place for lunch and the company ain’t bad either. Try to come and bring a friend!
Our wonderful plaque / shield needs some TLC... and we need a volunteer to do a little refinishing job on it...not a lot is needed but we don’t want it to get ahead of us.. put your hand up!
Mark your calendars with the key dates and plan to attend Shellbacks...when you can...often...with friends...and enjoy the food, programs and fellowship.
